Pendle Local Plan (4th Edition) Consultation

As the local planning authority, the Government requires Pendle Council to prepare a Local Plan. Its purpose is to provide a locally distinctive approach to balancing the environmental, social and economic aspects of development.

So what exactly is the Local Plan?

Simply put it is a planning guide to be used by planning officers, to identify where and where not development in the borough is appropriate. The main areas of development being housing and employment, with a focus on sustainable development.

Links to 4th edition consultation documents can be found on Pendle Borough Councils website here: https://www.pendle.gov.uk/info/20072/planning_policies/600/local_plan_fourth_edition/3

There are two proposed site allocations listed for Earby: https://www.pendle.gov.uk/downloads/file/11627/local_plan_fourth_edition_proposed_site_allocations_site_plans

Public Consultations are currently underway

This Friday (14th July), 9am – 12pm there is a drop-in session to be held at the New Road Community Centre and Library, where you can view the proposals and speak to a planning officer. Unfortunately this also clashes with the Earby Town Centre Masterplan meeting being held at the Linden Road Centre on the same morning at 10am – 12pm https://www.pendle.gov.uk/info/20028/town_centres/612/colne_barnoldswick_and_earby_town_centre_masterplans which will be focused on the centre of Earby, and retail, employment and leisure opportunities. Currently we have very little information to share on the Masterplan for Earby, and hope to provide more details as soon as we can.

Local Green Space Nominations

Along with the Local Plan consultations, there is the opportunity to nominate a local green space in the community, offering special protections for areas (if selected) that hold local significance because of their beauty, historic significance, recreational value, tranquility, richness of wildlife, etc.
Nominations must be in by 5pm on the 18th of August 2023

You can access the online nomination form here: https://www.pendle.gov.uk/xfp/form/420
